SAND, SOUND, SHAKE
Bleach* Festival, Sunhouse, Coolangatta, QLD, 21 March 2015
Curated by Rebecca Ross as part of the Bleach* Festival, Sand , Sound, Shake, explored three elements of the site: Coolangatta and the Gold Coast (sand), music (sound) and dance (shake). Sand, Sound, Shake created contemporary links to the local history of Jazzland, the hokey-pokey, and a broader remembering of entertainment venues that lit up the Gold Coast in years gone by.
With my interest in nostalgia and having grown up on the southern Gold Coast, I had early memories about some of the places and events that once existed on the Gold Coast. I was commissioned to make two hours of video artworks as the visual element of the silent disco, which was accompanied by my selection of the best of 70's disco, soul, glam and rock via wireless earphone distributed to the guests. The videos were projected onto a three-storey wall at Sunhouse in Coolangatta and with the accompanying audio it created a "silent disco", with the audience shaking it up Cooly-style on the outdoor dance floor.
